The Role of IL-1 in Osteoarthritis
August 2006
Gold - New York International Film and Video Festival 07
Gold - Worldfest 07
This animation shows research into osteoarthritis and how reducing the number of IL-1 receptors on the surface of chondrocyte cells can lead to a reduced production of nitric oxide, which leads to reduced activation of the immune response and a reduction in chondrocyte apoptosis. The results are a reduction in inflammation, subchondral bone remodelling and cartilage degradation.
